The Guide International Service helped people
start new lives after WWII.
In 1941, World War II was
believed to be coming to an end and there were many countries torn apart, people
without homes, people displaced far away from their home and country.
Much of Europe had its cities and towns bombed leaving many
homeless. People had fled their homelands in fear or had been deported to work
in slave camps. Much of Malaya and the East was also bombed and persons displaced.
War had also brought the lack of food for many people. With lack
of food and proper living conditions the health of these people was poor.
Many Groups had been into Europe to help the soldiers in giving
them a place to gather and rest but there was the need for the displaced people
to be helped. It was seen that this would have to be planned so as to help as
many as could be there as the war ended.
It was going to take a lot of people a lot of work to gather
these displaced persons, young and old, to feed them, clothe them, nurse them
back to health and help them go home, or go somewhere to make a new home and
life.
